About 65% of the people in our country have rice in their daily diet.
Rice is the main source of nutrient in the human body. Rice also has many uses for animal and poultry food and industry as compared to other crop. Therefore, rice is known as a multi-purpose cereal crop. Apart from this, paddy is the major cereal crop which grows and yields successfully in various types of soils such as light, heavy, wetland and saline. Considering the food crops grown in the state of Maharashtra, rice rank second only to Sorghun (jwari) and Millet (bajari). However, Paddy is the major food crop of the people Konkan, Nagpur division and adjoining areas of Sahyadri division, In Maharashtra paddy also known as ‘Dhan’.
